ES114 Outreach Coordinator

The successful candidate will support NASA HQ science communication efforts by:

  • Researching and writing articles related to science, instruments, operations, education and public outreach, and other aspects of NASA HQ Science Mission Directorate Space Science missions.  These articles will be featured on the mission websites, various magazines and journals, and on other media sources. 
  • Working independently to come up with original ideas for new stories related to the missions. Articles may include feature stories about science, instruments, or mission activities and will posted on mission websites, various NASA outlets, and other social media sites.
  • Attending mission-related meetings; taking, editing and distributing meeting minutes in the form of a meeting summary.  These meetings will be several times per year and may involve national or international travel. 
  • Developing content for other outreach materials including brochures, fact sheets, lithographs, conference exhibits, and web-based content.  The candidate should be well-versed in writing for different audiences, including scientists, various educational levels, and the general public. He or she should be able to work with relatively little supervision, and to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Working to develop content for social media outlets such as facebook, twitter, and blogs.

 

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelors Degree in science writing or Space, Planetary science discipline or in Science Journalism
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. 
  • At least 3 years experience with MS Office on PC's or MACs is required. 
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residence Status is required.
