ES077 Systems Engineer/Administrator

We are looking for a dynamic individual to support NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center’s Earth Science Mission responsible for large amounts of data.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify and meet customer requirements and ensure completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system performance and availability.
  • Maintain security and overall integrity of the systems per NASA guidelines.
  • Review new technologies against business requirements to identify opportunities for improving: process, performance, reliability, data management, storage, backup.
  • Analyze, log, track and resolve software/hardware matters of significance pertaining to networking connectivity issues, servers, and applications to meet business needs.
  • Perform troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose system problems; document system events to ensure continuous functioning.

Requirements:

  • Advanced Linux System Administration (RHEL 4/RHEL 5/CentOS 4/CentOS 5/Mandriva) including configuration management and system security.
  • Proficiency in system and network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience planning for and performing backups and restores for large amounts of data (10TB/day of new data, keep at least 32-day “rolling” data volumes).
  • Familiar with mass storage solutions, fiber channel SANs, efficient file systems (XFS, etc).
  • Experience in database installation, upgrades and maintenance (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience in scripting languages (e.g. shell scripting (Bash preferred), Perl) and Satellite/Spacewalk Server.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Xen, kickstart) and TCP/IP networking is a plus.
  • NASA experience or previous federal government support experience and knowledge of the FISMA Certification & Accreditation (C&A) processes and requirements is a plus.
