AP032 Scientific Software Developer
Scientific Software Developer sought to support analysis software development for the Astro-H satellite-based X-ray Astrophysics telescope. The work will be performed at Goddard Space Flight Center. The chosen candidate will help design and implement a suite of analysis software in close collaboration with HEASARC science staff as well as with instrument teams at the Japanese space agency (JAXA). The software will fit into the existing HEASARC software framework (HEASOFT/Ftools) and will require both an understanding of systems' architectures and strong attention to detail.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Writing instrument-specific software
- Software systems and library design and implementation
- Developing and documenting data reduction and analysis software
- Developing and implementing test plans and methodologies
Requirements:
- BS Astrophysics, CS/IT, or related field, MS preferred
- 3-5 years experience developing scientific software in C, C++ and/or Perl
- Experience with high-energy astrophysics data analysis systems, such as Ftools, CIAO, XMM-SAS is a plus
- Experience with or knowledge of the FITS file format is preferred
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residence
